Prior to September 2015 the development regions Nepal were further divided into 14 Zones; they are Bagmati, Bheri, Dhawalagiri, Gandaki, Janakpur, Karnali, Koshi, Lumbini, Mahakali, Mechi, Narayani, Rapti, Sagarmatha, and Seti.

As of 20 September 2015 Nepal is divided into 7 provinces, they are Province No. 1, Province No. 2, Province No. 3, Province No. 4, Province No. 5, Province No. 6, and Province No. 7. Every individual political subdivision is an editable shape.
Major Provinces on Nepal map
After the federal structure was adopted in 2015, Nepal was divided into seven provinces.
- Province No. 1: Encompassing the easternmost part of Nepal, this province is known for its diverse culture and economic activities, including agriculture and industry.
- Province No. 2: Located in the Terai region, it is a key agricultural area with a diverse demographic composition.
- Bagmati Province: This province includes Kathmandu Valley and is the cultural and political heart of the nation.
- Gandaki Province: Home to Pokhara, this province is famed for its tourism and natural beauty.
- Lumbini Province: Named after the birthplace of Buddha, it’s an important area for both agriculture and cultural tourism.
- Karnali Province: Known for its remote and rugged terrain, it is the least developed but rich in natural resources.
- Sudurpashchim Province: Bordering India and China, it’s known for its unique cultures and heritage.
Each province in Nepal has its unique charm and contributes to the country’s multifaceted identity. The decentralization into provinces has been an essential step in addressing regional disparities and promoting local governance and development.
