Bochum is the center of the central Ruhr region in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, with a population of about 380,000. Bochum is a non-county municipality in the administrative region of Arnsberg and one of the 4 general centers of the Ruhr area. The city is the sixth largest city in the state and is a member of the Westfalen-Lipper Regional Alliance and the Ruhr Regional Alliance. What makes Bochum people proud is not only its dignified industrial history, but also the Ruhr University makes Bochum people proud. Ruhr-Universität Bochum was founded in the 1960s and focuses on liberal arts and natural sciences, with about 36,000 students and 400 professors.

Wuppertal is a large city in the Bergisches Land region of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Geographically, it is located almost in the center of the “Rhine-Ruhr” urban agglomeration and in the south of the “Ruhr Industrial Area”, the neighboring city of Dusseldorf (about 30 kilometers west), and about 30 kilometers southwest of Cologne, 40 kilometers, about 23 kilometers northwest of Essen. With a population of about 360,000, Wuppertal is a medium-sized city.

It is also the birthplace of the German textile industry. Ruhr area textile industry center, including silk, velvet, linen, man-made fibers, carpets, tapestries and other weaving industries. Other industries include steel, chemical, rubber, machinery, tools, printing equipment and winemaking. Wuppertal is located on the Wupper River. Because of the large height difference in the city, there are many steps and steep streets, making Wuppertal the city with the most public steps in Germany.

Wuppertal is the hometown of Engels, the city where “Aspirin” was invented, and also has the world’s earliest and longest suspended train. It was built in 1903 and has a total length of more than 13 kilometers.
